HIV in Prisons, 2005 Released

The Bureau of Justice Statistics has published HIV in Prisons, 2005. This annual bulletin reports the number of AIDS-related deaths in prisons, a profile of those inmates who died, the number of female and male prisoners who were HIV-infected or had confirmed AIDS, and a comparison of confirmed AIDS rates for the general and prisoner populations. Web-only Publication Released by FBI

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released Crime in the United States, 2006, a Web-only publication that presents a compilation of data on offenses known, clearances, arrests, and law enforcement employment at national, regional, state, and agency levels. Come to Healthy Communities, Healthy Youth Conference

On November 8–10, the Search Institute will hold its annual Healthy Communities, Healthy Youth conference in Rochester, NY. The Healthy Communities, Healthy Youth initiative brings together individuals and organizations to nurture competent, caring, and responsible children and adolescents. The theme of this year’s conference is Transforming Relationships for the Common Good. Special tracks

Government to Government Consultation, Training, and TA to be Held at Month’s End

The Office of Justice Programs (OJP), in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the Office of Native Affairs, will hold a Government to Government Consultation, Training, and Technical Assistance conference on November 27–30, in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM. This is one of three Government to Government sessions being held in 2007-2008. Topics will include funding opportunities, sexual assault, detention facilities, methamphetamine training, suicide prevention, interoperability, and the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, among others. A National Tribal Symposium on Sex Offender Management and Accountability will also be included. For more information on the conference, visit

Youth Service America to Hold Conference

Youth Service America will hold its annual Youth Service Institute, Surfing the Wave of Change on December 12-14, in San Diego, CA. Sponsored by Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, the institute will focus on the following areas: addressing critical global issues through strategic service, effective methods to increase the impact of youth service, engaging youth audiences not typically asked to serve (disadvantaged youth, youth with disabilities, younger children, and others), and planning effective projects.
