McGruff Shines with the S.T.A.R.S.!

McGruff the Crime Dog accompanies the "Sheriff's Team of Active Retired Seniors" in serving their communities.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office in California started the S.T.A.R.S. program (“The “Sheriff’s Team of Active Retired Seniors”) in March 1993. Since that time, a small group of 16 original volunteers has blossomed into a team of 130 seniors who are dedicated to serving their communities. These volunteers work closely with law enforcement, helping to make communities safer places to live, work, and play, and are often accompanied by McGruff. Special thanks to Officer Miranda Bowersox, Officer Roy Johnston, and John Welton who coordinate McGruff’s appearances at school and community events and promote McGruff’s “Take A Bite Out Of Crime®” message! —Deborah Boone
