As 2008 draws to a close, I am pleased to offer you this latest issue of Catalyst containing exciting and informative articles to protect you and those you work with from online scams this holiday season, as well as how to avoid con artists as we make the February 2009 switch to digital TV.

As a crime prevention practitioner, law enforcement officer, volunteer, Watch captain, social worker, educator, business leader, or any of the other scores of professionals that work to prevent crime each and every day, I salute you. You put yourselves on the line for your citizens, neighbors, students, and young people. Thank you for your resourcefulness, and your strong commitment to prevention. You work tirelessly day in and day out to bring help and hope to those affected by crime. I know you share in our mission here at the National Crime Prevention Council to help people keep themselves, their families, and their communities safe from crime.

I hope the information in this issue helps you to further your own mission and informs your work.
