Registration Is Open for the National Institutes of Justice Annual Conference

The annual conference of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) of the U.S. Department of Justice brings scholars, policymakers, and practitioners together to share the latest findings of effective evidence-based policies and practices. The conference will be held from July 21–23, 2008, in Arlington, VA. Featured guests include former Attorney General Janet Reno, exonerated person Dwayne Dail and his attorney Christine Mumma, executive director of the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence. Easy Access to State-Level Data on Domestic Violence Victims

The EZANIBRSDV database gives users easy access to information on domestic violence victims as collected by the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Users can analyze state-level data reported by law enforcement agencies from 24 states, which include demographic characteristics of victims, victim injury, and victim-offender relationships.

Register for the OJJDP's National Youth Gang Symposium

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) will hold its National Youth Gang Symposium in Atlanta, GA, from June 23–26, 2008. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Partnering To Prevent Gang Violence: From Faith-based and Community Organizations to Law Enforcement.” Invited speakers include J. Robert Flores, Administrator of the OJJDP, and Nicky Cruz, speaker on inner-city gang violence and author of the book Run, Baby, Run. To register for this event, visit the symposium website.

New Publication: Title V Community Prevention Grants Program: 2004-2005 Report to Congress

Over the last 12 years, nearly 1,700 communities have received funding through the Title V Community Prevention Grants Program, launching efforts to reduce the risk factors that are associated with juvenile delinquency and enhancing the protective factors that support healthy personal and social development in youth. This report reviews the background of the Title V program; highlights local, state, and federal activities in 2004 and 2005; and outlines OJJDP’s plans to enhance the positive impact of limited Title V funds in future. Register for the 23rd National Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum and Georgia Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker have collaborated to sponsor this conference to address issues relating to the disproportionate number of African Americans involved in the criminal justice system. The conference, which will take place June 19-22 in Tampa, FL, showcases successful crime prevention programs and notable efforts to curb youth violence.
