Summer of Safety With McGruff
On July 8, 2008, the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), 5th District Summer Day Camp celebrated McGruff’s 28th birthday at the Webb-Wheatley Elementary School with more than 150 children, along with police officers and summer camp counselors. The MPD’s McGruff specialist taught the group about what McGruff stands for and how he helps kids learn how to make good choices and make their neighborhoods safer. When McGruff arrived he was warmly welcomed by cheering voices calling his name and much applause! The children were delighted to pose on stage for photos with McGruff. They finished the day enjoying cake and ice cream. Each child was delighted to receive a McGruff coloring book and a small token from the MPD. Thank you McGruff and the Metropolitan Police Department for your efforts in making 2008 the best summer yet! —Deborah Boone
