Basic Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) in the New England Area!
The Basic CPTED training provides individuals and organizations involved in community crime prevention programs with instruction and information that will allow them to develop and implement a significant CPTED initiative in their home communities. CPTED is based on the principle that proper design and effective use of buildings and public spaces in neighborhoods can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime and an improvement in the quality of life. Learn how to assess conditions in your neighborhood and apply practical access control (such as doors and fences), surveillance (such as lighting, windows, and landscaping), territorial reinforcement (such as signs, sidewalks, and ordinances), and maintenance (such as code enforcement and community cleanups) to improve your community, your neighborhood, and/or your home. Participants will learn to implement CPTED principles, foster relationships with partners, and acquire the skills and abilities required to reduce crime in a variety of settings and situations.

This course shows how participants can use advanced CPTED strategies and solutions to promote safety, orderly behavior, and a reduction of fear in the school environment. There are technical sessions on transportation, signage, landscaping, and lighting. Additionally, participants are guided through a comprehensive school assessment process followed by a real assessment of a school. Working in teams that consist of law enforcement, school administrators, staff, teachers, parents, students, and designers, participants will develop, prioritize, and present feasible recommendations for improving the safety and comfort of students and staff.
