Children’s Internet Safety Podcast Available for Downloading

Did you know that one out of every four children had been exposed to pornography or asked about sex while on the Internet? DC Public Safety’s online radio show recently highlighted the dangers that children can face when they go online. This January 15 podcast features an interview with Marsali Hancock, president of the Internet Keep Safe Coalition. DC Public Safety is a public service of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency for the District of Columbia.

Award To Recognize Outstanding Law Enforcement – Volunteer Programs

The International Association of Chiefs of Police and Science Applications International Corporation are sponsoring an annual award to recognize law enforcement agencies that have developed and implemented creative and effective law enforcement volunteer programs. Up to three winners will be selected.

National Sheriffs’ Association Directory Ready Soon

The annual directory published by the National Sheriffs’ Association will soon be in the mail. The 2009 edition reflects the results of the elections and has been updated with current information on all newly elected sheriffs, information on state sheriffs’ associations, and an alphabetical listing of all U.S. sheriffs. Specifically, the directory includes the address, phone number, fax number, and email address of all 3,084 sheriffs in the United States by state and county and many other features. Information on purchasing the directory is available from the National Sheriffs’ Association.

Report Provides Insight Into Mental Health Courts

Mental Health Courts: A Primer for Policymakers and Practitioners,” provides a comprehensive overview and history of mental health courts. The report describes the goals and processes of mental health courts, explains how they differ from drug courts, provides research findings about their effectiveness, and includes resources for jurisdictions interested in starting a program.

Bureau of Justice Statistics Releases Largest Data Collection on Stalking Yet

This 16-page bulletin, Stalking Victimization in the United States, presents findings on nonfatal stalking victimization in the United States, based on the largest data collection of such behavior to date. Topics include stalking and harassment rates by demographic characteristics, offender characteristics, cyberstalking, protection measures, and emotional impact.

New Anti-Drug Ads Available

The Office of National Drug Control Policy has launched three new National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign ads: “Achievements” and “Shadow” (television ads) and “Stoner Simulation” (a radio ad). These radio and television ads are available as free public service announcements to support anti-drug efforts in local communities.

Toolkit Features Court Performance Measures in Child Abuse Cases

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has published Court Performance Measures in Child Abuse and Neglect Cases. The toolkit, which provides detailed guidance, consists of five volumes, may be ordered as a whole or individually as follows: Technical Guide, PDF; Implementation Guide, PDF; User’s Guide, PDF; Guide to Judicial Workload Assessment, PDF; and Key Measures, PDF.
