Multiagency Program Reduces Violent Crime

Project Safe Neighborhood, a multiagency program supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, is a nationwide effort aimed at reducing crime in the United States. Researchers analyzed violent crime statistics in cities with populations greater than 100,000. Comparing 82 Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) cities to 170 (nontarget) cities that did not implement PSN, they found a 4.1 percent decline in violent crime where PSN was implemented compared to a 0.9 percent decline in cities where it was not.
