Every April since 1981, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, has helped lead communities throughout the country in their observances of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW). Public rallies, candlelight vigils, and a host of commemorative activities promote victims’ rights and services in all sectors of our society.
This year’s theme, Victims Rights: Every Victim. Every Time, captures the heart of OVC’s mission. Until all victims report the crimes against them, know and exercise their rights, and receive the help they need to rebuild their lives, there is still much work to be done.
OVC offers many resources to help communities and victim assistance programs promote awareness of crime victims’ issues and help commemorate NCVRW. The NCVRW Resource Guide helps promote community awareness of crime victim issues. OVC offers the guide in paper and electronic formats. The guide includes victimization statistics, ideas for special events, camera-ready art files, a motivational video on DVD, and posters. Visit www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ovc/ncvrw/welcome.html to download your copy of the guide or call 800-851-3420 to order one by telephone.
