New Vice President Joins NCPC

The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) recently appointed Ann M. Harkins to the post of vice president for Programs and Constituency Services. Ms. Harkins will oversee the internal division responsible for programmatic and training work in the field as well as law enforcement and membership initiatives.

"Ann Harkins is a proven professional who is committed to our mission and will help ensure that we meet our organizational goals," said Al Lenhardt, NCPC's president and CEO. "She will be a true asset to the organization, and I am pleased to welcome Ann to the NCPC team."

Harkins has more than a decade of Capitol Hill experience, having worked for several U.S. senators and most recently as the Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the Senate after the September 11th and anthrax attacks. She put her education as a lawyer and service on the Senate Judiciary Committee to good use while working at the Department of Justice as both the chief of staff to Attorney General Janet Reno and in the Office of Legislative Affairs.

In addition to a strong public policy background, Harkins has impressive management skills that include positions as a senior adviser on management, personnel, and operational decisions and matters of national security at the Department of Justice and in the 800-person Sergeant at Arms office in the Senate.

Harkins lives in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and coordinated West Virginia Summits on Homeland Security in 2003 and 2006.

"Crime prevention is at the heart of public safety," said Vice President Harkins. "NCPC is the center of excellence and an outstanding national resource for prevention. I am honored to join the team, and I look forward to adding to the extraordinary reputation of the National Crime Prevention Council."
