NCPC, the nation's focal point for crime prevention, has

  • Conducted one of the most successful public service advertising campaigns in American history in terms of donated media support and our internationally recognized icon, McGruff. Since the beginning of the campaign, over $1 billion worth of advertising time and space has been donated to present these messages.
  • Helped balance the core definition of crime prevention between property protection, surveillance, "opportunity reduction," and civic health, well-being, and quality-of-life approaches.
  • Pioneered the nation's first comprehensive citywide crime prevention strategies in seven of the largest cities in Texas, T-CAP (Texas City Action Plan To Prevent Crime, 1992), followed by NCPC's 16-city Comprehensive Communities Program planning initiative (1994).
  • Launched comprehensive neighborhood crime prevention strategies in crime-besieged neighborhoods, including Community Responses to Drug Abuse, technical assistance to Weed & Seed communities, and Methamphetamine Summits around the country.
  • Pioneered novel approaches to involving youth as partners in addressing social problems through Teens, Crime, and the Community; Youth as Resources; Youth Outreach for Victim Assistance; Youth Safety Corps; and  Youth Crime Prevention Conferences.
  • Developed new ways to communicate crime prevention information such as the Crime Prevention Month Kit, the NCPC websites, the Coalition e-bulletin, Topics in Crime Prevention series, and much more.
  • Expanded the Crime Prevention Coalition of America to include not only state and national organizations but also citywide and grassroots organizations.
  • Was named one of the nation's 100 best charities by Worth! Magazine in 2003.
