NCPC Launches First Crime Prevention Blog
Brandon Bryn, NCPC Web Writer
Last month, the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) published the first blog that focuses entirely on crime prevention. Best known for our beloved mascot, McGruff the Crime Dog, NCPC has been advocating the importance of prevention as a means to reducing crime for more than 25 years. We hope to bring our message into the 21st century with our new blog, Prevention Works.
The blog will feature the latest news and ideas in crime prevention, and offer an opportunity for discussion on a variety of topics. Each posting from NCPC staff will emphasize how to keep prevention at the forefront in making neighborhoods and communities safer from all types of crime. The postings will discuss how to handle issues ranging from violence in schools to cyber crime, as well as personal safety issues like home invasion.
“We want Prevention Works to be a place where people can come for the absolute latest information about crime prevention,” says Al Lenhardt, NCPC President and CEO. “Whether the topic is violence, fraud, personal safety, or an emerging trend such as identity theft or prescription drug abuse, we want people to be thinking of how these crimes can be prevented in the first place, rather than dealing with them after the fact.”
Earlier this year, NCPC released its new, updated website, www.ncpc.org, and the Prevention Works blog is the latest website feature. Not only is this blog a place to discuss crime prevention issues, but NCPC also wants it to be a place where it can hear from you. We invite you to comment on any post if you have something to add, have a different opinion, or have a question you’d like answered. All comments will be reviewed before they are posted, in order to avoid spam and profane comments, but NCPC is committed to posting and responding to your comments as soon as it’s possible. NCPC Partner Spotlight: CPCA Members Lock Up ID Theft Worries
Since July, NCPC has partnered with Arizona-based LifeLock to aim the spotlight on ID theft prevention. With more than 100 million people affected by breaches in the confidentiality of personal data over the past 18 months, Crime Prevention Coalition of America (CPCA) members can help ease their threat of ID theft by taking advantage of a special offer from LifeLock. Visit www.lifelock.com/index.php?promocode=CPCA for CPCA members to get 30 days of free ID theft prevention and more.
LifeLock maintains active fraud alerts with the three major credit bureaus as well as ChexSystems. By making personal information useless to everyone but the rightful owner, LifeLock is standing guard to ensure that the right person is attempting to open credit, change an address, or modify bank account.
By removing your name from solicitation lists and junk mail, LifeLock zaps a primary target of ID thieves – the pre-approved credit offer.
The LifeLock system is backed by a $1 million guarantee to completely fix any problems if a client’s data is ever compromised.
