Partner Spotlight

Gorell® Windows & Doors and Sparta Pewter

Gorell® Windows & Doors has found a new way to fight crime at the local level—by encouraging its dealers to sign up as NCPC sponsors. Gorell and NCPC have created a unique program that offers dealers the opportunity to market themselves as solid, community-oriented businesses.

Gorell, a committed corporate partner with the National Crime Prevention Council since 2003, has proven to be a model of corporate responsibility and citizenship. As an NCPC partner, Gorell has been highly active, promoting NCPC in practically all its marketing efforts. The company has also cocreated an activity book for kids on window and door safety and a leaflet for adults on window and door home security. These items are given to Gorell dealers, who are encouraged to distribute the pieces in their local communities.

“We strongly believe in the NCPC and its mission—and we feel confident that our efforts in promoting our relationship with NCPC help get the message about crime prevention to the public,” says Wayne Gorell, president and CEO of Gorell Windows & Doors and a member of the NCPC Board of Directors. “We also feel that secure window and door products like ours are an essential element to protecting families in their homes.”

By becoming a sponsor of NCPC, dealers have a chance to really get involved in their communities and spur on crime prevention at the local level. Also, becoming a sponsor of NCPC gives dealers the opportunity to leverage Gorell’s relationship with NCPC and McGruff the Crime Dog®. According to recent surveys, American consumers are more likely to support a company that supports or contributes to nonprofits. McGruff is well known to 66 percent of parents and 76 percent of 9- to 11-year-olds, and dealers that become an NCPC sponsor become known in their communities as being dedicated to safety and security.

By purchasing a sponsorship package, Gorell dealers

  • Can purchase and donate McGruff costumes to law enforcement organizations in their communities
  • Can sponsor a Fingerprinting Day event, creating children’s ID cards for parents at no cost
  • Receive templates for press releases, advertising, and signage on crime prevention issues such as window security tips
  • Have the opportunity to purchase NCPC promotional items that can be co-branded with the sponsor’s logo
  • Receive window and door safety activity books to distribute in the community
  • Can post web page content featuring McGruff the Crime Dog and important home safety messages

Some dealers have been quite successful in their sponsorship endeavors. Home Improvement of Acadiana is planning on donating McGruff costumes to three different police and sheriff’s departments in Louisiana. Pulliam Home Remodeling held a Fingerprinting Day in Summerville, SC this July that was attended by more than 400 children.

Are you a local police department or crime prevention organization thinking of partnering with local businesses? Here are some ideas.

  • Local businesses can purchase and donate a McGruff costume to their local police department.
  • Corporations and businesses can sponsor an event—or part of an event—for Crime Prevention Month. Your favorite restaurant could donate food or event space.
  • Many licensed products featuring McGruff can be purchased and cobranded by local organizations and sponsoring businesses. These products can be handed out at community events.
