Buckle Down on Safety (BDS)

The purpose of this program is to remind our school-age kids and others in the community to remember safety and present new information.

Start Date: October 1, 2008
City, State: Philadelphia, PA
Intended audience(s):
Children, College or university student, staff, or faculty, Community volunteers, Homeowner or neighborhood associations, Parents, Senior citizens, Teens, Watch groups (Block, Neighborhood, Business)

Buckle down on safety (BDS) is intended to remind our school-age kids and residents to remember rules about safety in our neighborhood. We will have refresher courses with kids grouped by age and review what to do about stranger danger, bullying, walking home from school alone, Internet safety, etc. We will also work with our seniors, reviewing new scams and making sure they know we have a victim assistance officer available to help them. We will tell them about crime patterns in the area and let the community know about how lighting and overgrown bushes affect crime. We will also discuss why items should not be left in vehicles. In short, we will make sure that our citizens are educated on how not to  become victims of crime in our Philadelphia streets because they have buckled down on safety (BDS).
