Clallam County Celebrates Safe Communities Month

Safety for Seniors Events to be held October 2nd and 3rd

Business owners, Children, College or university student, staff, or faculty, Community volunteers, Homeowner or neighborhood associations, K-12 school faculty or administrators, Local elected officials, Local government agency officials (other than public safety), Local news media, Members of civic organizations, Military service members and their families, Parents, Representatives of public safety agencies besides law enforcement (fire, emergency services, emergency planning/management), Senior citizens, Teens, Watch groups (Block, Neighborhood, Business), Youth-serving organizations (B&G Clubs, YMCA, etc.)

The Clallam County Sheriff's Office will be partnering with Sequim Police Department and Port Angeles Police Department to hold training workshops specifically targeted to senior citizens in the county. These workshops will focus on issues directly affecting the senior population such as identity theft, elder abuse, and fraud. Additionally we will promote our Neighborhood Watch program and CrimeNet, which is a Web-based program used to facilitate communication between law enforcement and the citizens of our county. The workshops will be held October 2, 2009 from 2 - 4pm at the Port Angeles Senior Center and October 3, 2009 from 2 - 4pm at the Trinity Unitied Methodist Church in Sequim, WA.

Additionally there will be several agencies with booths at both venues providing information on Search and Rescue, Project LifeSaver, Vial for Life, Volunteers in Police Service, Animal Issues and the various senior assistance programs available in Clallam County.
