Faith and Communities Engaged in Service

Faith-based crime prevention resources for underserved communities

The goal of NCPC’s Faith and Communities Engaged in Service (FACES) is to build and sustain nonprofit organizations founded out of faith traditions to more effectively meet the needs of people in underserved neighborhoods. Specifically, FACES does the following:

  • Supports and encourages nonprofit organizations and service providers founded out of faith traditions to meet the needs of their neighborhoods, strengthen their offerings, and foster cooperation among private, governmental, and nonprofit entities
  • Informs policymakers and private and public funders of the significance of the contributions made by faith-based service providers in vitalizing America's communities
  • Provides tools, training, and technical assistance to build capacity for service providers serving those in underserved communities

FACES meets these goals through community and coalition building, training, technical assistance, and state-of-the-art publications.

Faith and Service Technical Education Network (FASTEN)

NCPC was also a participant in FASTEN, a related faith-based initiative of The Pew Charitable Trusts. FASTEN offered informational resources and networking opportunities to faith-based practitioners, public administrators, and private philanthropists who sought to collaborate effectively to renew urban communities. The FASTEN website continues to identify best practices in faith-based services and multisector collaboration. It also disseminates educational materials for practitioners in the public and private sectors. For more information on FASTEN and available resources, contact Drew Carberry at DCarberry@ncpc.org

Faith-Based Community Initiatives

FACES has a cooperative agreement with the Corporation for National and Community Service to increase the participation of secular and faith-based community organizations in national service programs. Through this agreement, FACES identifies barriers that prevent access to national service programs and provides tools and technical assistance to improve the chances for admission into these programs. FACES also provides training and technical assistance to enhance the abilities of the Corporation and its grantees to work with community organizations. You can find out more about this work online.
