Mentor Guide for People Working With Children of Promise
This resource is designed to help mentors who work with children of prisoners. This guide describes the role of a mentor and offers strategies to help mentors work with children between the ages of seven and 11. It is available in English and Spanish.
McGruff and Scruff’s Stories and Activities for Children of Promise
This comic-activity book contains stories about some of the problems and situations children of incarcerated parents face. Children will learn conflict resolution skills to deal with tough issues such as peer pressure, bullying, and alcohol and other drugs. They will also gain insight on how to maintain or establish contact with their incarcerated parent and how to deal with prison visits. People of Faith Mentoring Children of Promise
This guide is designed for those who wish to develop a mentoring program for children of prisoners. More than 1.5 million children in the United States have a parent in prison. Amachi, a partnership of secular and faith-based institutions in Philadelphia, has been successful in providing guidance and support for these children. This document uses Amachi as a model to show how faith-based organizations, secular nonprofits, and public organizations can work together to provide caring and trusting relationships for these children.It can be purchased online and is available for download.
