This session introduces teens to the exciting possibilities of youth-led, service-learning projects. They will begin their project by assessing the needs of their community and defining one specific problem that they will address.

Share information from the NCPC media campaign about teen volunteers. Your students can watch the public service announcements or read the downloadable guide, Volunteering: Do What You Like To Do (to correspond with Step C).

SERVEnet: This website provides students with the opportunity to learn about service projects they can engage in outside the classroom.

Neighborhood Watch member: Can discuss how the community benefits from volunteering, and can help students learn about collective decision-making (in Step C).
Remember to give the community resource person the session materials at least one week before he or she will participate in your class.
