Girls in Gangs

The number of girls in gangs is growing rapidly; there are an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 female members today in the United States according to the U.S department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Female gang members purge all stereotypical gestures; they come from all socio-economic and racial backgrounds. Female gang members are often overlooked and underestimated members and can be just as violent as or even more violent than male gang members. Much like their male counterparts, they demand respect, and in most cases will do anything to get it. Female gang members may commit crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, assault and even murder (History Channel From Girl to Gangster: Gangland).
