Video Series Available For Law Enforcement

Jan 12, 2016

Washington, DC, January 12, 2016 – The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) released a video series available for law enforcement. The videos explain intellectual property (IP) theft and its effect on the U.S. economy and our communities.  The series also highlights the benefits to law enforcement catching IP criminals.  The NCPC and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) are asking all law enforcement personnel to watch for, report, and investigate all observances of intellectual property theft.

Intellectual property theft reportedly costs the U.S. economy more than $250 billion in lost revenue and 750,000 jobs every year. Law enforcement agencies and professionals are encouraged to download and share the videos, “The Threat,” “The Big Risk,” and “The Need to Investigate” during their roll calls or similar gatherings. The videos are part of a public education campaign that includes TV, print ads, online videos, and radio public service announcements, and other materials focused on preventing consumer use of counterfeit pharmaceuticals, pirated materials, and fake products. The videos and other materials are now available on the NCPC website.

“It is imperative to have the help of law enforcement professionals and agencies in the fight against IP theft. Many Americans are hurt or injured by faulty products.  Others are made sick by fake drugs using floor wax or sawdust and made improperly in unsanitary conditions. Additionally, counterfeit goods are commonly made and distributed by criminal gangs and organized crime groups who use the money to fund their criminal activities,” says Ann M. Harkins, president and CEO of NCPC.

Please join the National Crime Prevention Council, BJA, and others in the U.S. Department of Justice in our efforts to stop IP theft, view and share the “Roll Call” videos and visit our website for more information.  Help spread the word to your community, family, and friends that we need to “Take A Bite Out Of Crime” – intellectual property crime.
