FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The following statement regarding National Crime Prevention Council’s support of Fentanyl Awareness Day may be attributed to Paul DelPonte, NCPC Executive Director:

“The National Crime Prevention Council® and McGruff the Crime Dog® are proud to join with the voices of parents and others in creating Fentanyl Prevention Awareness Day on August, 21, 2022. This true grassroots movement is sounding the trumpet for a clarion call against this mindless poisoning. The nation needs to listen and to act.

Fentanyl is the primary driver of drug deaths in the United States. This deadly drug is 100 times more potent than morphine, and criminals have masterminded schemes to push this killer into the hands of unsuspecting victims. From luring children on social media platforms, to fueling a dark distribution web spanning the globe, the madness must stop.

The statistics serve as a stark reminder of the danger fentanyl creates in our communities. The inspiration for this day of remembrance comes from Facing Fentanyl, a nonprofit organization created by families of those affected. Their courage in the face of losing a loved one to this lethal poison should be the tipping point that motivates every American to action.

August 21 is a starting point. Government agencies, businesses, law enforcement, communities, and individuals can take the critical first step and let these families know they do not walk alone.

Together we can do more. To learn more visit: https://facingfentanylnow.org/ and www.ncpc.org.”
